Roger Stone caught on audio saying “arguing with this Negro” in interview

Roger Stone's business card

Former Donald Trump advisor and Republican political consultant and lobbyist, Roger Stone was caught on audio saying “arguing with this Negro” in an interview on The Mo’Kelly Show with Mr. Mo’Kelly; who is black. At mid point during the interview, there appears to have been a connection issue which seems to have made Stone think that Mo’Kelly couldn’t hear him. The interviewer, unaware of Stone’s connectivity issues, continued on with his question. When he stopped for an answer, Roger Stone didn’t respond but he could be heard  seemingly talking to someone in the background. Stone also seemed unaware that he could still be heard. The first part of what he said was unclear however he clearly said “arguing with this negro”; presumably talking about Mr. Mo’Kelly.

To his credit, and not to belabor an issue that could have turned into a back-and-forth argument, Mr. Mo’Kelly moved past Stone’s comment to continue the interview. Roger Stone’s comments can be heard around about 12 minutes and 24 seconds in.

After about half a minute, Roger Stone finally responded. When asked about his comment Stone quickly denies it ,not knowing that he was recorded the whole time.

Mr. Mo’Kelly: “Would you not like to continue the conversation sir? I hear that the line is not dead.”

Roger Stone: “Uh you’re back. I don’t know what that … You there? Hello?”

Mr. Mo’Kelly: “Yea, I was talking and you said something about Negro so I wasn’t exactly sure.”

Roger Stone: “I did not.”

Mr. Mo’Kelly: “Oh ok”

Roger Stone: “You’re out of your mind.”

Unknown to him, Stone’s denial was pointless, as shortly after the conclusion of the interview Mo’Kelly provided the unedited audio.

According to now deleted tweets by Stone, posted by mediamatters.org back in 2018, this wouldn’t be out of character for Roger Stone. In those tweets Stone refers to commentator Roland Martin as a “fat negro”,  former Republican congressman Allen West as an “arrogant know-it-all negro”, and refers to former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain as “Mandingo” in different tweets. These are by no means the extent of his twitter back catalog as indicated by the title of mediamatters.org’s article on Roger Stone.

Mr. Mo’Kelly commented;

“He didn’t see me as a journalist, not as a professional, not a radio host…but a “Negro” first and foremost. Thirty years as an entertainment professional, twenty of them in radio. “Negro” was the first perjorative uttered. The low-calorie version of the N-Word.” mrmokelly.com Roger Stone Returns to The Mo’Kelly Show and Bedlam Ensues (LISTEN)

This interview comes on the heels of Stone’s  release from prison after being convicted by jury and sentenced by a federal judge in November of 2019 for “making false statements, witness tampering, and obstruction”. Though Stone hasn’t been his advisor for a long time, he has remained devoted to Trump. Stone was meant to serve 40 months in prison for his crimes but Donald Trump commuted his ally’s sentence on July 10, 2020.
