Top 5 Twitter Hashtag Fails by Brands of 2014

#CosbyMeme

Come on you knew this had to be here. When Bill Cosby posted the above screenshotted tweet asking the Internet to meme him amid growing allegations of rape the response was immediate and negative. This tweet has since been deleted but nothing on the Internet goes away. This one is a bit unique from the others because up until this fiasco Cosby was already a positive meme of sorts on the Internet. His images were more associated with sayings criticizing less than intelligent behavior. No more. Whoever was running Mr. Cosby’s twitter account should never work in social media again. Ever.

Had this been the previous year or even a week before the video of comic Hannibal Buress highlighting Cosby being accused of multiple rapes went viral all would have most likely been well. The response would have been something silly and more in line with what, I would assume, the social media team was looking for. It’s too late now though as this meme has left the loose confines of Twitter and is now and forever going forward an Internet staple. None of these rape allegations against Cosby have been proven and most likely can’t ever be, they are all accusations and will remain as such. Again though, you can’t do this amidst negative publicity. It doesn’t go well. Ever. Even if it’s old publicity that never went away, it will follow you. #AskRKelly anyone?

This was never going to work out well. How do these people get these jobs? This has to be the worst Twitter fail of 2014 if not ever. This whole idea can be summed up in this one meme right here.
